The Role of Faith Communities in Times of Crisis and War: Dialogue and Friendship in Action
In times of war and crisis, faith communities and civil society face urgent questions: What role can they play in fostering peace, dialogue, and reconciliation? Father Jihad Youssef, leader of the Deir Mar Musa Monastery in Syria, will visit the University College Stockholm (EHS) to share his experiences of interfaith dialogue and friendship in one of the world’s most conflict-ridden regions.
Deir Mar Musa, a restored desert monastery north of Damascus, has for decades been a place of hospitality and encounter between Christians and Muslims. Founded by the Jesuit priest Paolo Dall’Oglio, the community is working for peace and mutual understanding.
The event will be held in English and include a lecture, a conversation with Professor Samuel Rubenson, and a session for student and audience questions.
The event takes place in connection with the Swedish release of Paolo Dall’Oglio and Églantine Gabaix-Hialé’s book I kärlek till islam, i tillit till Kristus (In Love with Islam, Believing in Jesus).
