Ida Simonsson

Senior lecturer

In 2021, I earned my doctorate in Systematic theology and studies in worldviews at Uppsala University, with a dissertation that examined the relationship between Christian theology and the market economy, both historically and in the present day. This relationship remains my main research interest, which I am currently working on in relation to the ecological crises. As of July 2025, I will also be a visiting researcher at the Department of Economic History at Uppsala University, where I am involved in a research project on environmental economics.

Within this main track of economic-theological research, an interest in analyzing power structures can be discerned. This has also manifested in more distinctly feminist and queer theological work, as well as an interest in theological aspects of colonization and decolonization in Sápmi.

In my teaching, I appreciate being able to teach a wide range of topics within systematic theology — from baptism and the Eucharist in Christian theology to religious diversity  — and I am deeply grateful to be able to engage daily with theology’s enduring questions together with the students at EHS.
