History of Eastern Christianity: The Church after the Soviet Union and the Arab Spring

The course provides a deeper understanding of the development of Eastern Christianity, with a special emphasis on the development in the late twentieth century and the early twenty-first. The course takes into account especially how the fall of the Soviet Union and the Arabic Spring was influenced by the eastern churches, and how it affected them. Furthermore, the course provides an introduction to methods in church history with a particular emphasis on the historical-critical methods, source criticism and archive research.

Examination Format

Godkända kurser för en kandidatexamen i teologi/religionsvetenskap, 180 hp, där minst 150 hp utgörs av teologi/religionsvetenskap eller motsvarande. Dessutom kunskaper i engelska motsvarande kraven för grundläggande behörighet.

För fullgjord kurs krävs minst 80% närvaro vid föreläsningar och 100% närvaro vid seminarier/gruppövningar och andra tillfällen för redovisning. Frånvaro därutöver kan kompenseras genom kompletteringsuppgift (-er) om kursansvarig lärare bedömer det möjligt. Vid frånvaro om 50 % eller mer betraktas kursen som avbruten, även om examinationsuppgifter har genomförts.
