Pre-Conference speaker: FIFTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE on Receptive Ecumenism 17 june 2021

Gabrielle Thomas

The Revd Dr Gabrielle Thomas is an Anglican theologian and avid ecumenist who lectures in Early Christian and Anglican Studies at Yale Divinity School, New Haven, CT. Before moving to the US, she spent two years as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Centre for Catholic Studies at Durham University, UK whilst serving as a Minor Canon in Durham Cathedral. Her work aims to bring the academy and the church into conversation with one another and is motivated by contemporary pastoral concerns, lying at the intersection of historical theology, theological anthropology, and ecclesial practice. Her books include The Image of God in the Theology of Gregory of Nazianzus (CUP, 2019), and the edited collection on Women and Ordination in the Orthodox Church – Explorations in Theology and Practice (2020), and For the Good of the Church: Unity, Theology, and Women (London: SCM Press, 2021. In addition to books and academic articles, she has also written for the popular Christian press, such as The Tablet and the Church Times.

Last year, she was appointed to the Anglican – Oriental Orthodox International Commission. Whilst she takes her faith, research, teaching and priestly vocation very seriously, she does not take myself too seriously and loves to laugh.
