Han har en examen från filosofiska fakulteten vid Belgrads universitet och en doktorsexamen från filosofiska fakulteten vid Albert-Ludwigs universitet i Freiburg (i. Br.), Tyskland. Hans senare forskning har skett vid teologiska fakulteten i Westfälische-Wilhelms universitet i Münster, Tyskland.
Davor Džalto forskar främst kring undersökandet av mänsklig frihet och kreativitet, som metafysiska, politiska och estetiska koncept.
Under sin karriär har han undervisat vid flera europeiska och amerikanska universitet inom områden som religions- och fredsstudier, teologi, konst och teori, estetik och kritisk teori.
Som praktiserande konstnär arbetar han främst med oljemålningar.
