Cardinal Anders Arborelius, OCD, is Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Stockholm, Sweden. He was born in 1949 and he entered the Carmelite monastery in Norraby, Sweden in 1971. He was ordained a priest in 1979, was appointed, and consecrated bishop in 1998.
In 2017, he was appointed cardinal as the first Swedish cardinal in history.
He has a Master of Arts in modern languages – English, Spanish and German – from Lund University. He has studied Theology and Philosophy in Bruges and Rome. In Rome, he obtained a Licentiate in Spirituality from the Carmelite Pontifical Theological Faculty,
Cardinal Arborelius is a member of the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for the Oriental Churches and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in the Holy See. And presently he is president of the Christian Council of Sweden.
