Theories and Methods in the Study of Religion, Politics and Democracy, Distance Education
This course prepares students for academic work in the field of religion, politics, and democracy, with a focus on Eastern Christian/Orthodox tradition. The course aims to develop the ability to critically read and review primary and secondary sources, and the ability to approach academic work independently and critically. In addition to learning about diverse approaches to the field, students will also learn to situate the study of religion/theology and politics within the broader field of the Humanities.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the requisite methods for conducting graduate studies within the Humanities
- Critically assess scholarly work and arguments and evaluate individual research methodologies
- Discuss ethical issues in academic work
- Demonstrate familiarity with subject-specific approaches in the study of religion, politics and democracy in the context of Eastern/Orthodox Christianity
- Demonstrate the ability to use subject-specific methods and critical analysis in their individual work

A Bachelor's degree in Theology or a related field (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) from an internationally recognized university. Proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognized test, e. g. TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent.
