Sara Gehlin is a senior lecturer at University College Stockholm. She teaches in all the three departments of the college, Religious Studies and Theology, Eastern Christian Studies, and Human Rights. Sara defended her doctoral dissertation on the role of theology in peacebuilding in year 2016 at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies, Lund University. Since then, she has worked as a researcher at the Church of Sweden Research Department in Uppsala, and in the interdisciplinary research project “Reason and Religious Recognition” at the Faculty of Theology, University of Helsinki.
Her research concerns the issues of ecumenical peacebuilding, interfaith and ecumenical dialogue, the history of the ecumenical movement, religion and conflict resolution, and the intersection of feminist- and peace theology. In recent years, her writing has also concerned the contemporary development of receptive ecumenism. She participates in the current work on receptive ecumenism at University College Stockholm and the Christian Council of Sweden and has also been a member of the council’s Work Group on Mission Theology.
Since 2015, Sara is a consultant in the World Council of Churches’ Commission on Education and Ecumenical Formation. Her most recent publications include the book Pathways for Theology in Peacebuilding: Ecumenical Approaches for Just Peace (Leiden: Brill, 2020).
