Course
The Old Testament in Its Religious Context
The Old testament har come into being in times of both harmony with and in polemic with other religions, divine images and religious perceptions. This has been the case from the ancient Canaanite religion of the 14th century BC up until the hellenistic time of the first century BC. This multitude av religious contexts constitutes therefore a major challenge in order to understand and appreciate the religious practice and theological construction that we find in the Old testament. This course offers an overview av this multitude with certain halts in texts that exemplifies similarities and differences, dependencies and rejections. The course has as its aim to provide an understanding of the religious multitude of the Old testament, as it has been worked out through centuries of connections between various religions.
