Public lecture series in Ecclesiology: “Public Theology” by Professor Cyril Hovorun

The 15th April, at 13.00 (CET), professor Cyril Hovorun will present the next lecture in Sankt Ignatios College, Stockholm School of Theology spring lecture series focusing on the nature and role of the Church. In his lecture, which follows on from his previous lecture on critical ecclesiology, professor Hovorun imagines the Church as a sage coming to the agora, the ancient public ‘marketplace’ of ideas and resources. Only there, in the public space, can the Church truly see itself, as in a mirror, and understand how well its ‘human’ performance truly reflects its divine identity and so realise its full potential and accomplish its mission. Professor Hovorun will argue that in a sense, therefore, any ecclesiology is public by default: there cannot be proper ecclesiology which is not public.
These lectures are compulsory for Pastoral-pedagogical, Religious Educator program students, MA students in Eastern Christian Studies and MA students in International Relations and Ecumenism, but we encourage all of our students to take part. Students will be able to find the link to the lecture on Canvas.
