Nourjahen Jemaa, Saskia Ullius
Tell us about the report and why did you choose to write about this subject?
Saskia: I chose to work on this topic because she had previously worked in the same field in Germany. I believe that there is much to learn about the problem to better target and hopefully, solve it.
Nourjahen: I chose to work on the topic because I am interested in migration generally. I thought it would be good to narrow it down and experience working on a research project that is specific under the umbrella of migration.
Did you work in team or independently? How was it to work in team/independently?
We worked together, in close coordination and collaboration with each other. We started the research process on both countries together. Following that, we collaborated further when working on the findings and concluding remarks of the report.
It was enriching and challenging because we come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives.
What was challenging in the process of writing the report?
Conducting interviews was challenging. First, we had to find people to interview. Then, we had to see if they agreed to being interviewed. Finally, if they could be interviewed within the timeframe, we had to complete the project.
It would have been better if more support was provided by the library to find more relevant material for our research as well.
What skills and experiences from previous courses in human rights were helpful during your work with the report?
It was good that we had a course on the legal framework of human rights before this research. A lot of us do not have a background in law and law interpretation. However, having that course made it easier to search for laws and to analyze them with a thorough understanding.
What skills and experiences from this course will help you in the future?
- Working in a team
- Research
- Close encounter with methodology
- Writing a thesis like research piece
